Instalment solutions is an African financial engineering company. Our mission is to expand the financial possibilities for everyday Africans through credit, risk and wealth products that actually make sense for Africans.
Financial products are the personal infrastructure of the modern world, and the options available to Africans are often limited, predatory, and unworkable. So we're building new ones, and we need an Engineering Tech Lead to join our mission.
Our first product is monthly.ng, a rental finance product that allows anyone to rent any property in Lagos and pay monthly. No collateral, no guarantors, no harassment, and yet still affordable. It embodies what we are all about; innovation, convenience and helping people live better.
Our engineering team consists entirely of senior engineers. We’d love to meet you if you are an experienced tech lead and proficient in our technologies.
The Role
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical evolution of our architecture and systems
- Technical capacity planning, Technical spikes and Experiments
- Contribute to the codebase. The expectation is 50% of your time will be as a contributor
- Involved in recruiting engineers to the team. Run interviews and be part of the decision panel
- Responsibility for the productivity of engineers on the team. You will help them accomplish ambitious but achievable goals
- Review RFCs and PRs providing valuable feedback and helping the team grow
- Mentor/Coach team members to become leaders capable of making important decisions and unblocking themselves
- Collaborate with the product and business team to deliver valuable products that delight customers
- Write clean code, document existing code and refactor previously written code
- Document APIs, Architecture and designs (RFCs) in a clear and concise way
- Communicate effectively and proactively with the team and external stakeholders (third-party APIs and integrations)
- Demonstrate the “you build it, you run it” mindset, own solutions end2end from design to deployment and support
- Setup monitoring dashboards, alerts and runbooks to ensure high availability
Qualifications
- 6+ years experience as a Backend engineer, building, deploying and maintaining production services
- Experience leading, coaching and mentoring driven and high-performing teams
- Solid backend experience working with PHP 8+, MySQL, AWS technologies
- Prior experience building low-latency APIs or reactive systems
- Practical experience with software engineering concepts such as REST, SOLID principles, Design Patterns, and 12-factor application methodology
- Experience with DevOps practices such as CI/CD, infrastructure as code, containerisation
- A passion for financial services
